Coquilles et feuilles de choux - Daniel Dewar et Grégory Gicquel au Palais Jacques Coeur
As part of the 'Un artiste / Un monument' programme initiated by the Centre des monuments nationaux, the Franco-British artist duo Daniel Dewar and Grégory Gicquel are proposing an installation designed for the Palace's Salle des festins, comprising a series of sculptures.
Ceramics modelled and fired in a wood-fired kiln and a series of pieces of furniture hand-carved from solid oak will be arranged in three rows in the banqueting hall. Among the sculptures are stoneware jugs in the form of a foot with a handle, a recurring motif in the duo's work. The surface of one jar is covered with shiny, multiplying torsos on which snails are carved. On either side of these ceramics are solid oak sculptures, including two benches with embroidered cushions and furniture adorned with motifs from the duo's incongruous vocabulary.
