Description

Tucked away in the heart of a lush green valley, Thoronet Abbey offers a striking view, quite similar to what a Cistercian monastery would have looked like in the Middle Ages. Within its walls, it has preserved certain features related to the daily life of the white monks: a monumental gatehouse, remains of the guest quarters, courtyards and gardens enclosed by low walls. At the centre of this 'city', the church, with its pure lines, and the cloister, with its rough and austere elegance, are architectural masterpieces.
