About the monument

Château de Cadillac

A formal residence.Built during the reign of King Henry IV of France and then King Louis XIII, this French-style château combines splendour and military pomp. Much of its sumptuous decoration has been preserved, including monumental fireplaces, tapestries and painted ceilings.
The fate of the "almost king". A captain of Gascony, the precursors to the Musketeers, the Duke of Epernon shot to the highest ranks in the late 16th century following the assassinations of kings of France Henry III then Henry IV.
Prison life. From the 19th century to the 1950s, this abandoned château was used as a women's prison.
