As the year 2024 marks France's hosting of the Olympic (July 26 - August 11) and Paralympic Games (August 28 - September 8) in Paris - a first in 100 years - the Centre des monuments nationaux as part of its Cultural Olympiad program, the Centre des monuments nationaux wanted to highlight the history of a struggle for emancipation and equality through a variety of objects and audiovisual audiovisuals, archives, posters, photographs, sports equipment... At the Pantheon, where the great personalities who have earned the country's gratitude through their civic commitment or their defense of republican values, the exhibition Histoires paralympiques (Paralympic Stories) evokes those who, through their role in the the Paralympic movement, have written a history based on pride in difference and demands for a for a more inclusive society. The Paralympic Stories exhibition thus echoes the great men and women in particular Louis Braille, inventor of tactile writing, who was inducted into the Pantheon in 1952.
