Description

Founded in 709 by Bishop Aubert, the Mont-Saint-Michel was one of Europe's major pilgrimage destinations of the Middle Ages. The "Miquelots", who came from all over the continent, collected shells in the bay as a souvenir of their journey, or bought medals, representing the Archangel Michael overthrowing Lucifer. Today, Mont Saint-Michel and its abbey are major world heritage sites, attracting millions of tourists from all over the world every year.
