Description
Founded in 709 by Bishop Aubert, the Mont-Saint-Michel was one of Europe's major pilgrimage destinations of the Middle Ages. The "Miquelots", who came from all over the continent, collected shells in the bay as a souvenir of their journey, or bought medals, representing the Archangel Michael overthrowing Lucifer. Today, Mont Saint-Michel and its abbey are major world heritage sites, attracting millions of tourists from all over the world every year. Like the pilgrims of the Middle Ages, they too bring back souvenirs: postcards, medals...
