Description
The Sainte Chapelle was born from the will of Saint Louis - Louis IX - who wanted to provide a jewel worthy of housing his collection of relics. It offers visitors the dazzling beauty of its stained glass, this "paradise regained," this "veil of glass, this ardent confession made of pulverized colors and luminous points," as described by Paul Claudel in "The Listening Eye." Once housed at the heart of the Palais de la Cité, and now somewhat lost within the Palais de Justice, it remains a unique architectural gem, a 13th-century monument that was later restored by Viollet-le-Duc six centuries later. As the massive restoration of the stained glass windows comes to an end after several years of work, this album from the "Regards..." collection offers a rediscovery of the Sainte Chapelle. Beautiful photographs give readers the unique privilege of getting up close to the windows to appreciate the 1,133 scenes, characters, designs, and sumptuous colors.
