Monnaie de Paris - Azay-le-Rideau Castle - 2026

109577

Issued in 2026 by the Monnaie de Paris, this model pays tribute to the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau, a jewel of the French Renaissance. Built between 1518 and 1524 on an island in the Indre River by Gilles Berthelot, treasurer to Francis I, it beautifully blends French architectural traditions with the early Italian Renaissance influences. Admired for its elegant façade with large windows and tall dormers, its medieval machicolations, its richly sculpted staircase, and its fairy-tale reflection in the water, it was famously described by Balzac as a "diamond cut with facets." Perfect for coin collectors and enthusiasts of history and Loire Valley châteaux!
Souvenir piece with no monetary value, dated 2026.
