About the monument

Grotte de Pair-non-Pair

Pair-non-Pair is one of the world's most remarkable pre-historic painted caves from the Upper Paleolithic period. Its animal engravings, dating back over 30,000 years, depict horses, ibexes, deer, mammoths, cattle and an exceptional representation of Megaloceros.

Over 60,000 years of human presence are recorded at this site first occupied by Neanderthals. The excavations carried out by François Daleau in the late 19th century revealed lithic and osseous industries as well as numerous animal bones.
