About the monument

Abbaye de Montmajour

A source of inspiration for modern and contemporary art. Producing many drawings at the abbey from 1888 to 1889, Van Gogh (1853-1890) was one of the artists fascinated by Montmajour. Ascension, the work by Alain Kirili (b. 1946) for the abbey choir, is a homage to his use of thick layers of colour.
