Description
This château nestles in a wooded valley in the Auxois region, not far from Montbard, Fontenay and Alise-Sainte-Reine. From a medieval castle, the Rocheforts created a residence marked by the early French Renaissance. The Rabutins, who acquired the Bussy estate in 1602, completed the reconstruction of the main building in 1649. Roger, Count of Bussy (1618-1693) and cousin of the Marquise de Sévigné, inherited a château that still needed to be completely decorated. Exiled by the king, this libertine adorned his château with a multitude of portraits of the great figures of Louis XIV's court, accompanied by ambivalent inscriptions and mottos that spoke of his nostalgia for an exile kept far from the royal star. This collection, the only one of its kind in France, is the highlight of your visit to the château.
